113-Year-Old Newspaper Edition Well Preserved
Daniel Herbrich, left, and Luke Herbrich, right, of La Grange, recently found a perfectly intact copy of the Dec. 27, 1910 edition of The Houston Chronicle in the bottom of an old family truck. Though yellowed and a bit brittled by more than century, the edition (which sold at the time for two-cents) seemed otherwise mostly untouched by time. The newspaper included a lot of Associated Press national news, but the inside was packed with local classified ads. New homes in the Houston area were selling for $2,000 and lots in the Heights were just $120. The Herbrichs donated the newspaper to The Fayette County Record.
