While many thought we’d be done with COVID by now, the coronavirus continues to hang around.

Nationwide there’s been a slight uptick in cases recently.

In this area, there are still active cases.

As of Friday the Texas Department of State Health Services estimated there were 35 active cases of COVID in Fayette County. Since the start of the pandemic the state estimated 69 people in Fayette County have died of complications related to COVID-19.

Other information specific to Fayette County, courtesy of Emergency Management Coordinator Craig Moreau:

· Over the last 30 days, we have averaged slightly more than one new case per day (34 cases).

· For our entire region, the cases have been declining or flat since the spring.

· There are 9,175 citizens that are fully vaccinated and 10,798 that have received at least one dose.

· The 65+ population is much more likely to be fully vaccinated than the 12-65 population.

· We have had 1,602 recoveries.
