Gov. Greg Abbott, just hours after the Senate initially approved a school voucher measure, said he would add teacher raises and increased public school funding to the ongoing special session agenda if the Texas Legislature passes his voucher plan, the Texas Tribune reported.

“I want to make sure we provide a carrot to make sure this legislation gets passed,” Abbott said of vouchers. “Once [education savings accounts] are passed, I will put on the legislative agenda full funding for public education, including teacher pay raises for teachers across the state.”

I keep getting questions about what to do if the drought persists next year or if becomes the new “Drought of Record.” Does it make sense to feed tubs? Does it pay to irrigate? Why not mow weeds? Should I feed protein blocks? Is old hay good to feed in a drought? Each of these questions are an article unto themselves, but I will try to make a short reply.

To the Editor: I support vouchers as an option for parents seeking an alternative to public education even though I’m a product of public education as are my three adult children (one as special needs.) My wife went to Catholic school through 8th grade and public education for high school. We were blessed to have great schools and teachers.
