Fayette County Deputy Arrests Weimar Hit and Run Suspect

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports on activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of August.

Deputy Ben Wilson responded to mailbox damage call on State Highway 71. The responsible party for the damage was located and a citation was issued. Wilson also responded to a trailer at Tree Park Antiques RV Park where a resident was not seen or heard from for several days. Wilson made the location and located the person deceased in the trailer. An inquest was conducted and the cause of death is still to be determined by an autopsy.

Deputy Marc Bennett responded to a residence off of FM 2503 in reference to stolen furniture taken in a burglary. A suspect was identified and the furniture located with charges pending. Bennett also took a report of stolen materials from a construction site of a home on Waldeck Cemetery Road. A suspect vehicle is reported as a white van with three ladders stacked on top.

Sergeant Ron Naumann met with a land owner off of Leslie Road in reference to estray cattle. The owner of the cattle was located and the cattle were removed from the property. Naumann also took a report of a stolen vehicle in the Muldoon area. The vehicle was located and a suspect has been identified. Naumann also responded to another address where a juvenile attempted to leave from a residence in a vehicle. The juvenile was stopped and released to the custody of his parents.

Sergeant Investigator Angela Lala filed a fail to register sex offender case. The offender failed to register as required. Lala also is assisting Child Protective Services with an ongoing investigation of an alleged sexual abuse case of a child.

Deputy Ryan Meagher responded to a wrong way driver on State Highway 71 near the Colorado County line. The vehicle was located and stopped. The driver was found to be intoxicated and was arrested. Meagher also stopped a driver of a vehicle on South Kirtley Road near Barton Creek Road. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

Sergeant Charles Jobb responded to Schumacher Road for an inquest. Investigation ruled the death to be of natural causes.

Deputy Terry Guentert took a report of a stolen vehicle from the Flatonia area. The truck was entered into the state and national database as stolen. The vehicle was recovered in Waller County with a suspect in custody. Guentert also responded to property off of Schilhab Bottom Loop where suspicious happenings of upkeep were being performed on property in which the owner had not hired. Two tractors and a shredder were also missing. Currently the investigation is indicating the incident to be a civil issue.

Investigator Garrett Durrenberger made contact with a suspicious person wearing a badge and a gun at the Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo event. The investigation resulted in the male being charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon on a license premises and he was found not to be affiliated with law enforcement. Durrenberger responded to the Warda area for an abandoned four-wheeler. Currently an owner has not been identified.

Deputy Herman Olvera located a suspicious vehicle parked on US Hwy. 90 near Popp Lane. Investigation resulted in an intoxicated male found asleep in the vehicle. The male was arrested for public intoxication.

Deputy Darrell Maze responded to a facility near La Grange for an alleged assault. Currently no charges have been filed.

Deputy James Ulbig stopped the driver of a vehicle on Jefferson Street for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle was found to be in possession of Xanax and was arrested. Ulbig also responded to a reported reckless driver call on Radhost School Road. The vehicle was located and the driver of the vehicle was arrested for driving while intoxicated. A passenger in the vehicle was arrested also for public intoxication.

Deputy Adam Mack checked on a suspicious vehicle parked at Bar G. The vehicle was found to be occupied and investigation resulted in the occupant being arrested for possession of a controlled substance. Mack also stopped a bicyclist on State Highway 159 for a traffic violation. The bicyclist was found in possession of methamphetamines and was arrested.

Deputy Kenn Kretz assisted in locating a hit and run vehicle reported as happening in Weimar. The driver of the vehicle was stopped and taken into custody. Kretz also took a criminal mischief report near Cistern where a hole was cut in a game fence containing exotic animals.

Deputy Joe Gonzales responded to Armstrong Derry Road for a fire that caused destruction of property stemming from a controlled burn. The case is being referred to the County Attorney’s Office. Gonzales also stopped a driver of a vehicle on State Highway 71 which was traveling the wrong way. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Deputy Michael Krenek responded to a disturbance in the Muldoon area. The investigation resulted in a male being arrested for injury to a child/elderly/disabled. Krenek also responded to property off of Barton Creek Road for a disturbance where a male and female fled into the woods. The female was located and charged with evading.

Deputy Jared Michalec assisted Deputy Gonzales with stopping a wrong way driver on State Highway 71 where the driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Administrator Ed Sawyer reports that Fayette County correction officers booked in 72 individuals for the month of August.
