Citing Scripture
To the editor:
Since citing Scripture for political purposes seems to be the order of the day in the Opinion section of the Record in last Friday’s September 13 edition, I encourage all voters and lawmakers and governors and presidential candidates alike to read and pray over the following Words of our Lord Jesus found in Matthew 25 before voting whether it be for or against a bill or for or against a candidate: “...’For I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’Then they will also answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You? Then He will answer them, saying, “Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it for Me.’ And they will then go away into everlasting punishment...’’
And for the likely excuses to follow from extreme right wing writers to the Record, be reminded of the following words of Our Lord’s Prayer: “...Thy kingdom come, Thy Will be done, ON EARTH as it is in heaven...”
