La Grange head girls soccer coach Lauren Hubbert informed her players and parents Wednesday that she will be leaving at the end of the school year. In her message to them she said, in part: “The last three years here at La Grange have been nothing short of amazing ... La Grange has been one of the easiest places to transition into calling home and we have been absolutely blessed by the community and how incredibly supportive everyone has been ... However, my husband was given an opportunity to advance in the career field and the incentives to accept the new position were ones he simply could not refuse.”

Riley Lowe is a senior star for the La Grange girls soccer team. She’s the reigning District Utility Player of the Year, also a standout student-athlete in the classroom and has won a number of acting awards with the La Grange High School one-act play.

The Flatonia girls overwhelmed Schulenburg 79-20 in district basketball action Tuesday. But then the Schulenburg boys got revenge in the nightcap of the doubleheader, beating the Bulldogs 52-42.

The La Grange soccer teams had their district openers Tuesday and both teams lost to Taylor. At home, the Lady Leps fell to the Lady Ducks 6-0.

The La Grange boys basketball team improved to 2-0 in district with an 83-44 road victory at Caldwell Tuesday. Brandon Mathis led the Leps in scoring with 21 points and Conner Brooks had 12.

Led by a 33-point performance by Kylie Trlicek and 23 from Campbell Cooper, the La Grange girls basketball team went on the road Tuesday and beat Caldwell 75-51. The Lady Leps are now 18-9 overall and 3-1 in district and host Navasota Friday at 5:45 p.m.

Last year Brandon Mathis played basketball for Giddings. This year the 6-foot-5 sophomore star, who is averaging 10 rebounds, two blocked shots and 11 points per game, is playing for La Grange.
