Flatonia Nearly Upsets Undefeated Holland

The Flatonia Bulldogs aren’t going to the playoffs, but they played like they were Friday, rallying from a 22-point deficit and nearly beating undefeated Holland before falling 37-36. A late two-point conversion try by Flatonia (5-5 overall, 2-4 in district) was stopped and that proved to be the game winner.

Shorthorns Beat Thrall to Grab Third Place

The Schulenburg Shorthorns won a shootout against the Thrall Tigers Friday night, 42-35. “We had a three week stretch with tough, tough games, and we lost on lastsecond plays two weeks ago and last week,” said Schulenburg head coach Luke Hobbs.

Lady Leps’ Hoops Opener Monday

The La Grange girls basketball team has moved its season opener against Schulenburg to Monday Nov. 6 because of the Lady Horns playoff game Tuesday. The varsity game is expected to start about 7 p.m. in La Grange.

Fenhaus Places 8th at State Cross Country Meet

Fayetteville’s Cole Fenhaus placed 8th at the state 1A cross country meet Friday in Round Rock, finishing his race in a time of 17:04.60. Fenhaus also helped lead the Fayetteville boys to an 11th place finish at state.
The Fayetteville cross country team was 11th at state in Class 1A.

Koeth Wins $100 Football Jackpot

Michael Koeth Jr. was the winner of last week’s reader football Pick-It contest after successfully navigating a week of pro and college nailbiters. We will try to get a photo of him accepting his $100 check from Alpha One Ford for Friday’s edition of the paper. In the meantime, here are this week’s picks, and for once procrastination will be rewarded. Yes, we know the La Grange/ Madisonville playoff game is Thursday so feel free to hold onto your ballot until Friday to await the outcome of that one. Just make sure to turn in your ballot by 5 p.m. Friday.

LG Volleyball Falls in the Second Round

Against a onslaught of power and height from Gateway Prep, the La Grange volleyball season came to an end Thursday in Bastrop as the Lady Leps were swept by the Gators in the second round of the 4A playoffs.
