Victoria Court Named After Jan Lahodny

A woman with deep Fayette County ties was honored in a big way last week in Victoria.

Jan Zapalac Lahodny had the court at Victoria ISD’s event center named after her during a ceremony on Aug. 8.

Lahodny is a Flatonia native who went on to coach for 29 years at Shiner, Schulenburg, Wharton and Victoria.

She won her 700th game as head coach in Schulenburg in 1997. After retiring one season later, she served as a Schulenburg school board member

But her greatest achievements came at Victoria, where she led the girls basketball team to three state titles and seven state runner-ups finishes.

She compiled an overall record of 707 wins and 264 losses and was a three-time named Coach of the Year by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Association.
