Sisters Abbie and Allie Uzzell are new to Flatonia High School this year (they are daughters of new FISD teachers) but they are already doing big things on the basketball court. Both are key contributors to the Lady Bulldogs stellar 9-1 start to the season.

Allie, a senior, scored 16 points and had five rebounds in Tuesday’s 57-21 districtopening victory over Schulenburg. Abbie, a sophomore scored six points and had two steals.

“They both bring a high basketball IQ to the court. They play over the summer,” said Flatonia head coach Bethany McLeod. “Allie is a great post. She’s strong, she’s able to get boards ... Abbie’s a point guard and has been doing amazing at it.”

We caught up with the Uzzell sisters right after their big win over Schulenburg Tuesday for this interview: What did y’all like most about what y’all were able to do in this game? Allie: “I liked how much we are able to share the ball. Summer (Sodek) had eight assists tonight, which was really good.

Abbie: “I love how our team works together. We are all really close.”

What’s it like sharing the experience of playing varsity basketball with your sister?

Allie: “It’s the best. She’s my best friend. Getting to share the thing I am most See passionate about is unreal.”

Abbie: “This is the first year we’ve ever played together, and it’s so much fun.”

Are y’all more similar or more different? Allie: “Depends who you ask. I think we are very different. I think I’m more like my dad and she’s more like my mom.”

Abbie: “I agree.”

If you were writing a scouting report about your sister as a basketball player what would you say?

Allie: “She is a great teammate. She looks for the best pass and usually gets it. She can hit the shot when necessary.”

Abbie: “She’s really great at crashing the boards. She’s a great leader and knows how to help her team out, and yes, yell at us, but in a good way.”

Christmas is coming up. What’s at the top of your wish list? Allie: “I don’t have anything I really want. I just want to sleep in.”

Abbie: “Nothing big, just some little things.”

Where is your favorite place to eat in Flatonia and what is your go-to order there? Allie: “Darlin’s for breakfast, and I like the honey butter chicken biscuit.”

Abbie: “Flatonia Pizza Company that just opened, and we love their BBQ chicken pizza.”

What are your individual goals and team goals for this season?

Allie: “I just want to lead well. Coming in as a senior, I only have so long to make an impact. Team goal is to keep working together because that will take us far.”

Abbie: “Individual goal is to be more confident since it’s my first year being on varsity, and a team goal is rebounding better and working together.”
