Thompson Anchors Shorthorn Line as the Playoffs Approach
Schulenburg football player Adam Thompson has contributed in many ways for a Shorthorns team that just picked up their fifth win of the season against Thrall last Friday. Thompson doesn’t only snap the ball to the quarterback as the team’s center and make blocks, he also makes tackles on the other side of the ball as a linebacker.
“Adam’s a special kid,” said Schulenburg head football coach Luke Hobbs. “We love having him on our team. He’s in a good mood most of the time, he’s always funny, and keeps the guys’ spirits high. He is smart. That’s what makes him so good. He’s able to recognize fronts and he puts our guys in the right position. Our offensive line has a bunch of rules based on where the defense is. He sets those rules and he makes those calls. It just makes life a lot easier for a coach when you trust a kid like that. He does a very good job and he plays way bigger than he is. He’s extremely physical for how small he is and he just gets after it.
“(he’s an) absolute vital part of our offense. We run for a lot yards and he and the offensive line are just huge, huge parts of that.”
Thompson’s leadership and excelling in an important role has given him the nod for this edition’s Athlete of the Week.
