Flatonia powerlifter Isaac Vasquez has qualified for the state meet. He will compete Saturday in Abilene. He qualified for state after lifting personal bests in all three lifts at regionals - 385 pounds in bench, 540 in squat and 495 pounds in dead lift.

Vasquez, a senior, is also in the National Guard on an early entiy program. He went through basic training last summer and continues his training one weekend per month.

“I’m super proud of Isaac. He’s the ideal student athlete,” said Flatonia powerlifting coach William McGonagle. “He takes care of his business in the weightroom and the classroom. He’s a leader, and has shown that by going into the military after high school. He’s always pushing himself. He truly earned his way to state.”

We’re proud to honor Vasquez as this week’s Fayette County Athlete of the Week.
