Softball/Baseball Round-Up
The Schulenburg softball team will begin the playoffs with a best-of-three series against Charlotte. All games are at Marion High School. Game 1 is Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Game 2 is Friday at 8 p.m. and if necessary, a Game 3 would be Saturday at noon.
La Grange Softball The La Grange softball team will begin the 4A playoffs Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Rice Consolidated against Houston Wheatley. The winner of that game advances to the second round to play the Salado/Jarrell winner.
Schulenburg Baseball With a 15-0 win over Louise last week the Schulenburg baseball team clinched a playoff berth.
The Shorthorns no-hit Louise in that game, which Connor Fogle striking out five in his 2.1 innings of work and Brycen Schramek closed out the game, which was called after four innings because of the mercy rule. Cooper Demel drove in three runs in that game and Bryce Stoever had a double and drove in two.
Flatonia Stays Tied for Baseball District Lead
The Flatonia Bulldog baseball stayed tied for first place in the District 29-2A race by picking up a 10-0 victory at Weimar last week.
Last Thursday, Flatonia traveled to Weimar and earned a win. Titan Targac pitched a nifty five inning complete game shutout. He gave up just two hits, one walk and had 12 K’s.
Beck Zimmerman had a great night at the plate. He hit a triple & a double, while knocking in two RBI’s. He also scored three times.
Diego Ramirez went 3-3 with one RBI.
Getting two hits and two RBI’s each were Cale Janeckaand Henri Vincik.
The Dogs also played at St Paul Shiner last Friday and pulled out a 9-7 victory.
Blake Kessler picked up the win on the mound in relief of Janecka & Zimmerman. Combined the three pitchers gave up seven runs, four walks, and had thirteen K’s.
Vincik led the offense with three hits and three RBI’s. Diego Ramirez hit two singles. Railey Nieto had the game winning hit, by knocking in two runs with a single in the top of the seventh inning.
Zimmerman & Janecka each had one single and scored two runs apiece.The Bulldogs last home game is Monday, April 22 vs. Louise. This is also Senior Night. The last district road game is at Shiner this Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m. The Bi-District (1st) round of the UIL playoffs will begin next week May 2-4.
