Softball Playoffs

• Schulenburg’s softball season came to an end last week with a loss to Charlotte in a best-of-three bidistrict playoff series. The Lady Horns lost 10-0 and 5-1. Kinley Tillery pitched a complete game in both contests for the Lady Horns. Hailey Kahlden scored the long run for Schulenburg in the second game. The loss brings an end to the coaching career of Gilbert Price, who is retiring this season after 17 seasons leading the Lady Horns. He won 241 games over that span. Loren Besetzny has been hired as the new Schulenburg softball coach and her husband, Cameron will be an assistant football and assistant track coach at the school.

• The La Grange softball team (1712) plays No. 4-ranked Salado (31-1) in the second round of the 4A playoffs this week in Thrall. They play a doubleheader Thursday, May 2, at 5 p.m. If necessary a third game would be 6 p.m. Friday back in Thrall. The winner advances to play the Smithville/Gateway Prep winner.
