Shorthorns Beat Flatonia 63-24

In a battle between incounty football rivals, Schulenburg went on the road and beat Flatonia 63-24.
The victory clinches the No. 3 playoff seed out of District 15-2A for Schulenburg, while Flatonia ends its season with a nine game losing streak. Schulenburg jumped out to a big 35-3 lead in the second quarter before Flatonia cut that lead to 35-17 on a 60-yard pass from Beck Zimmerman to Keegan Green and a 41-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Koren Scott.
But the Shorthorns got those 14 points back before halftime on a touchdown run by Aaron Janecek and then a 47-yard touchdown pass from Janecek to Jayse Janda.
Schulenburg never looked back from there as they improved to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in district. Flatonia ends their season with a 1-9 mark and a 0-6 record in district.
Mason Kunschick ran for three touchdowns for the Horns and Da’Terrion Houston ran for two scores and a team-high 143 yards Friday.
Janecek ended up going 11 for 11 passing for 180 yards.
Jayse Janda also threw a 22-yard touchdown on a trick play to Byron Johnson, who caught seven passes for 95 yards.
The Shorthorns now advance to play Three Rivers (91) Friday at 7:30 p.m. at New Braunfels Canyon’s Cougar Stadium. The winner of that game advances to face the Marlin (7-3)/Holland (7-3) winner in the second round.
