Shorthorns Baseball Wins 13th in a Row
The Schulenburg baseball team won their 13th consecutive baseball game Tuesday by beating Louise 10-0.
Ian Reeves and Nick Goode combined to pitch a nohitter for the Shorthorns, who improved to 16-3 overall and 6-0 in district.
Reeves threw four no-hit innings with eight strikeouts, and Goode pitched a hitless fifth to close out the game.
Emerson Harvey hit a double and Reid Janda scored two runs.
Head coach Marty Bigham isn’t satisfied.
“We’re just trying to keep the ship upright. Baseball is full of ups and downs, and we’re trying to stay there in the middle, play as hard as we can,” Bigham said. “Sure we’ve won 13 games, but we’re also the team that had six errors against Industrial in the very first inning ... It’s one pitch at a time. Our motto this year is ‘win the inning.’ We’re trying to keep them grounded, keep them positive and don’t let the emotions of doing great or bad get in the way.”
The Shorthorns marched all the way to the state semifinals last year, and look primed for another big year.
This is Bigham’s first year as head coach. He’s been an assistant the last three years as the Horns have made steady improvement every year.
“Those guys are such great leaders, they are running it for me,” Bigham said of his players. “I’m here just making sure nobody gets hurt.”
