Schulenburg Wins Thrilling Regional Semifinal Series
The Schulenburg baseball team won a thrilling regional semifinal series over Thorndale last week.
The Shorthorns (28-6) won the opener Wednesday 8-0, lost Game 2 Friday 8-5 before winning the decisive Game 3 by a 11-4 score Saturday.
In Wednesday’s opener the Shorthorns won as pitcher Connor Lichnovsky and Nick Goode combined on the shutout and Ian Reeves had two hits.
In Game 2, Thorndale got to Schulenburg pitcher Owen Brenek early. Jayse Janda had three of the Shorthorns six hits in that game.
In the third game, Ian Reeves and Goode combined on the pitching effort for Schulenburg. Reid Janda and Jayse Janda each had two hits.
Brenek and Emerson Harvey each had two hits.
Now the Shorthorns advance face Iola (20-4) in a one-game regional final Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Cypress Lakes High School in Katy. The winner advances to the state semifinals.
