Of Note: The Shorthorns finished third in their district to face the District 16-2A runner-up, Three Rivers Bulldogs. Three Rivers started the season with nine consecutive wins before being humbled last week with a 83-7 loss to Refugio. Three Rivers QB Cody Sells has thrown for 1944 yards and 27 touchdowns this season, while a host of backs have combined to give the Bulldogs a 153-yards per game rushing average, but Three Rivers only got 37 yards on the ground against Refugio ... Schulenburg meanwhile, carries a three-game win streak into this game and is coming off a 63-24 win over Flatonia last week in which senior quarterback Aaron Janecek was perfect, completing all 11 passes he attempted for 180 yards. Mason Kunschick ran for three touchdowns last week and Da’terrion Houston ran for two ... Last year the Shorthorns made it to the playoffs and lost a 28-21 heartbreaker to Johnson City in the first round. Three Rivers knows the feeling. Last year they were bounced in the first round of the playoffs by La Villa 26-24.
