Of Note: After taking a big step forward last season under firstyear head coach Luke Hobbs the Shorthorns will try to continue building as they open this season against a Hallettsville Sacred Heart team that was stellar last season and returns six offensive and five defensive players from last year’s squad. Quarterback Andrew Steffek returns after throwing for 14 TDs and 912 yards last season, but the Shorthorns have their own star QB in Aaron Janecek, who ran for over 1,000 yards last season and also threw for over 1,000 yards. Schulenburg returns 11 offensive and 10 defensive starters from last year’s team. As part of this game, Schulenburg is hosting a special tribute night to the late David Husmann, who coached the Horns to state titles in 1991 and 1992. He finished his coaching career at Sacred Heart before his passing in 2020.
