Rohde a ‘Spitfire’ for Surging Round Top-Carmine

Round Top-Carmine basketball player Kim Rohde has been an essential part to a surging Cubette team that’s had success throughout the ’23-’24 season and notched a playoff bid. Rohde contributes on both ends of the floor and is considered a vocal leader on the team as well.

“Kim’s a spitfire,” said Round Top-Carmine interim head girl’s basketball coach Bayley Gold. “Whenever I need something done, she’s my girl to go get it done. She has more passion than most do in their entire body.”

Rohde’s effort to help take command in all aspects has made her our choice for this edition’s Athlete of the Week.

Question: How have you been able to have the success you’ve had this year?

Answer: “I think we had a new coach. I’m not saying our old one was bad or anything, but just something new. A little younger. Really excited about the game just like our old coach was.”

Question: Who’s your favorite basketball team?

Answer: “The Iowa Hawkeyes. Caitlin Clark is out there.”

Question: What part of basketball do you like the most?

Answer: “Probably shooting free throws because its very relaxing. You just get to calm down for a second.”

Question: What’s an activity you do a lot?

Answer: “I’m always at practice, but if I’m not at practice, I’m at home just hanging around the house.”

Question: Pizza or wings?

Answer:“Definitelywings.”

Question: Who’s a teammate you shoot with the most before practice?

Answer: “Kennedy Flinn. She’s definitely the best shooting partner.”

Question: What’s a movie you like and why do you like it?

Answer: “I love the movie Surf’s Up. I could probably recite every line to it. It’s just fun to see little penguins talk and surf on waves.”

Question: Which one would you rather do: skiing or bungee jumping?

Answer: “Bungee jumping. It would be fun to do flips.”

Question: If you could only have one music album, what would it be?

Answer: “Probably Cody Johnson music.”

Question: What’s your restaurant of choice in Round Top?

Answer: “Probably Royers cafe. They have the best rolls.” Rohde plays a big role on a team that has seemed to catch a rhythm as the Cubettes are now heading to the area round.
