Schulenburg’s defense played a huge part in their win over Burton last Friday 28-7, and defensive back Reid Janda had a spectacular night.

Prior to this season, Janda hadn’t played football since junior high, and he missed week two’s game against Rogers due to illness. But he came back in a big way against Burton last Friday with seven tackles and two interceptions.

“Reid is a huge surprise for us,” said Schulenburg head coach Luke Hobbs. “We were super excited when he told us he wanted to play last year. He put in all the work during the offseason. We’ve been working him in. He does a great job at defensive free safety. He’s a ball hawk in the middle of the field. He helps us a ton. And offensively, he starts at wide receiver for us, too. In week one, I think he had five catches. He’s a huge part of our team.”

Janda’s hard work and his eye for the ball earns him the title of Fayette County Athlete of the Week.

You had two interceptions in the game against Burton, including one that would have been a touchdown but got called back. Can you take us through those plays?

I just dropped back to my zone, read the quarterback’s eyes and caught the ball. (On the second one) I trusted the blockers in front of me and ran to the open field.

Mainly country.

Who’s your favorite artist?

Probably Parker McCollum

Where’s your favorite place to eat in Schulenburg and what do you usually order?

Oakridge Restaurant, I get the buffet. It’s all you can eat.

It was really exciting. I made a lot of memories up there.
