    NFL Punter Larry Swider of Fayette County Dies at 66

Larry Swider a former NFL punter, who in his later years lived in Fayetteville, died Aug. 7. He was 66.

Swider was born in Maine and graduated from high school in Pennsylvania.

Swider was a star collegiate punter for the University of Pittsburgh in the 1970s before being drafted in the seventh round of the 1977 NFL draft.

He went on to play with the Detroit Lions, St. Louis Cardinals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and then in the USFL. He ended up punting 284 times in the NFL with a 41.3 yard average with a career long of 72 yards and 44 punts inside the 20 yard line. In his later years he volunteered with the Fayetteville sixman football team.
