Middle School Football Recaps
The La Grange Middle school football teams went on the road last week to Rockdale. All four teams were in action, and came home with three wins and a tie.
7th Grade Gold - Played the first game against Giddings (Rockdale did not have a 7th B team) and won 23-0.
Offensive standouts were quarterback Antonio Villalobos and receiver Louis Amaya. Villalobos had two long touchdown runs of 60 plus yards each, and a 80 yard touchdown pass to Amaya in the 4th quarter to put the game away. Coach Golan named the defensive standouts as Gavin Wilson, who had an interception and forced fumble during the game, as well as Tucker Stark, who almost had a big intersection in the first half with the score still close.
Stark also made several tackles for the Leopards.
7th Grade Purple - Played their best game of the season thus far scoring 22 points against Rockdale. Offensive standouts were receivers Kaden Karonika, Luke Oates, and quarterback Shepherd Gunn. Oates had many clutch catches during the game with his biggest coming in the 3rd quarter when he caught a ball on a crossing route, broke a slew of Tiger tackles and finally went down out of bounds at the 3 yard line. Karonika caught two touchdown passes from Gunn on the night, totalling over 100 yards. Gunn, along with a great passing night, had many hard runs and scored a rushing touchdown for the Leopards. In the end, the boys ran out of time, only 12 yards from the endzone as the buzzer sounded with the score tied 22-22. Defensive standouts were Shepherd Gunn and defensive tackle Wade Jaster.
8th Grade Gold - Won their game against Rockdale 14-0. Offensive standouts were quarterback Gabriel Friemel and running back Charles Gunter. Gunter, who has played as an offensive lineman in the previous games, had two touchdowns on the night. The first came from a 24 yard run to the outside, and the second was a 4th down catch to put the game away. Friemel had a great night commanding the offense and added a two point conversion run. Coach Collier added defensive standouts for the game as Isaac Orona, Aiden Sump, and Alex Garcia.
All three players did a great job stopping the Rockdale run game.
8th Grade Purple - The final game of the night ended in another Leopard win over the Tigers with a score of 286. Offensive standouts went to the entire offensive line which controlled the line of scrimmage, and kept the Rockdale defenders off our quarterback all night. Alij ah Zachary, Brody Kelly, Andrew Spoelstra, Reece Benford, and center Julian Lopez were responsible for the foundation of all points scored by the Leopards Thursday night. Quarterbacks Ryder Klesel and Cole Fritz shared the responsibility of commanding the huddle.
Defensive standouts were Ja’kayden Utley, Giovanni Luna, Sebastian Pimentel, and Cole Fritz.
The Leopards will have their first home games this Thursday against a veiy good Madisonville program starting at 4:30 p.m.
