Looking Ahead to the Upcoming Prep Volleyball Season

High School volleyball practices began this week, and local teams will already be playing scrimmages starting this Friday with season openers beginning Tuesday, Aug. 13.

La Grange went 20-24 last season and made it to the second round of the postseason. The Lady Leps graduated a whopping seven seniors from last year’s team, including several defensive specialists, but heavy hitters Kylie Trlicek, Carley Ulrich and Kenna Lamza return to lead the offense.

Here’s who made the La Grange varsity this season:

• Caleigh Brock

• Clara Bundick

• Kyla Colon

• Celeine Fabre

• Faith Greenwood

• Avery Griffin

• Cara Homer

• Kenna Lamza

• Hope Michalke

• Ella Nygren

• Ashtyn Smith

• Jaley Stork

• Kylie Trlicek

• Carley Ulrich

• Brion Williams Schulenburg went 37-13 last season and marched all the way to the state tournament. The Lady Horns graduated five stellar seniors from last year’s team, but they returned lots of impact players, highlighted by junior setter Landry Zapalac and senior hitter Emmrie Marx. The Lady Horns are a preseason No. 4 team in 2A.

Round Top-Carmine was one win away from making it to the state tournament last year. They graduated five very good seniors, but the Eilers twins (Tess and Jill) return to the Cubettes and should be a major factor in the 1A world again this season, and they start the year ranked No. 6 in the state preseason.

Fayetteville went 18-23 last season and lost to eventual regional champ Neches in the second round of the playoffs. The Lady Lions graduated four really good seniors, but return some very athletic underclassmen.

Flatonia went 17-17 last season and was a playoff team last year and return most of their roster.
