Local Volleyball Teams Start District Play With Authority

La Grange

The La Grange varsity volleyball team defeated Smithville in a thrilling five set match Tuesday on the road 14-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 21-19.

The victory improves the Lady Leps overall record to 9-21 overall but more importantly they are now 1-0 in district.

Kill Leaders from Tuesday match were: Carley Ulrich 31, Cara Homer - 11, Brion Williams - 10 Dig Leaders: Kylie Trlicek - 24, Carley Ulrich - 17, Ella Nygren - 15, Ashtyn Smith 15.

Ace Leaders: Ashtyn Smith - 5, Carley Ulrich - 2 Assist Leaders: Kylie Trlicek - 47 Block Leaders: Brion Williams - 4, Carley Ulrich - 2 The La Grange JV defeated Smithville 25-19, 18-25, 15-10 District record 1-0 Overall record 10-7 The La Grange Flex defeated Smithville 25-12, 25-13 District record 1-0 Overall record 10-7 The Lady Leopards will host Bellville next Tuesday.

Schulenburg

The Schulenburg volleyball team beat Shiner in four sets Tuesday, winning 23-25, 25-12, 25-8, 25-19.

Madison Kunschick had six aces and seven digs. Avery Helms had five aces and seven digs.

Landry Zapalac had 37 assists and eight digs.

Haylee Vacek had 19 kills and 25 digs.

Emmrie Marx had 16 kills. Michaela Kollman had 21 digs.

The Lady Horns improved to 22-9 overall and 1-0 in district.

The recognition of the Schulenburg 2012 State Runner Up, 2013 State Runner Up, and 2014 State Champion Volleyball teams has been rescheduled for Friday, October 18, at halftime of the Shorthorn football game vs. Ganado.

Flatonia

The Flatonia Lady Dogs started district play Tuesday at Ganado winning 25-6, 25-11, 25-15 Flatonia stat leaders were: Aces: Summer Sodek - 7 Greenli VanZandt - 2 Elzah Herrera - 1 Sadie Noska - 1 Assists: Summer Sodek - 22 Elzah Herrera - 6 Sadie Noska - 2 Block Assists: Summer Sodek - 1 Emma Kosler - 1 Digs: Summer Sodek - 9 Emma Kosler - 6 Elzah Herrera - 5 Kills: Katelin Sullivan - 14 Summer Sodek - 8 Allie Uzzell - 4 Greenli VanZandt - 4 Flatonia is back in action next Tuesday at home vs. Louise.

Fayetteville

The Fayetteville volleyball team defeated Dime Box 2512, 25-16, 25-13. Lady Lions improved to 18-9 overall with the victory.

Tara Vitek had 12 kills, Lainey Gromaski had seven and Cambree Denham had five. Emily Kielers had seven aces. Scotti Beseda had six digs and 23 assists.

RTC

The Round Top-Carmine volleyball team defeated Providence Classical Tuesday 20-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-16.

Madison Markwardt recorded her seventh triple-double of the season with 12 kills, 11 digs, and 18 assists. Other stats for RTC (15-16) include: Jill Eilers 8 kills, 1 assist block, 10 digs, 23 assists, 2 aces; Tess Eilers 7 kills, 16 digs, 1 assist, 2 aces; Bree Dooley 10 kills, 1 assist block, 9 digs, 1 assist, 4 aces; Jessica Rohde 6 kills, 3 assist blocks, 1 solo block, 2 digs, 1 assist; Hayden Kasmiersky 3 kills, 2 assists; Avery Nelius 7 digs; Makayla Smith 8 digs, 2 aces; Reagan Williams 1 kill, 1 dig, 1 assist.
