Little Girl Reels a Big Bass in Round Top

Nine-year-old Catoline Huebner of College Station reeled in a monster 8½ lb. bass on Christmas Eve at her grandparent’s pond near Round Top. Mark Fink, her grandfather, said Caroline managed to catch this enormous bass with a little help from her brother Benjamin after the rains cleared out on Sunday. Fink said Caroline’s mom dressed her in a nice Christmas outfit that day, but it didn’t stop her from heading to the pond with her brother. Fink said the pond has been on the family property since his grandfather bought the place in the 1940s. The pond went dry in 2010, he said. But he restocked it with bass in 2013. “I started noticing some good-sized bass two or three years ago,” Fink said. Fink said he believes this bass was the same one his grandson Benjamin hooked earlier this year, but it got off the line about 20 feet from the shore. This time, though, Caroline reeled it in.
