LHS Makes a Splash in Belton
The La Grange Swim Team showcased their strength and determination at the 4th Annual Roy and Jean Potts Invitational in Belton on November 16th. Competing against 16 teams—nine of which represented formidable 5Aand 6Aschools. Despite the tough competition, the team delivered impressive perfor-mances— La Grange emerged as a standout, finishing 3rd overall and claiming the title of the highest-placing 4A school at the meet. The girls placed second overall with a score of a 299 only getting edged out by 5A Hendrickson with a 308. The boys finished 6th overall with a score of 166 behind 5A Leander Glenn, 5A Lake Belton, 5A Hendrickson, 5A Belton and 6A Shoemaker High.
The record-breaking streak continued with senior Laney Herdler. Known for her resilience and determination, Laney broke her 500-yard freestyle record for the second time this season. She shaved an impressive 2.95 seconds off her previous time, establishing a new school record of 7:15.24.
The event began on a high note for La Grange with a show-stopping performance by the girls’ 200 Medley Relay team. The team—consisting of Celeine Fabre, Adysen Janacek, Hope Michalke, and Eleanor Carey—delivered a thrilling race that brought the crowd to its feet, clinching a 1st-place finish with a time of 2:12.21 and setting the tone for the rest of the meet.
Not to be outdone, the boys’ 200 Medley Relay team brought their A-game as well. The team—made up of Rogan Mihatsch, Gavin Cook, Hunter Sabo, and John Kaspar— finished 5th overall, securing the title of the top 4A relay. They also impressed by slashing an impressive 6.65 seconds off their previous best, clocking in at 2:01.83.
The momentum continued in the 200 Freestyle Relay, where two La Grange teams showcased their skill and See The first team—composed of Adysen Janacek, Celeine Fabre, Paige Michalke, and Eleanor Carey—secured an impressive 2nd-place finish with a time of 1:57.08. The second team—featuring Hope Michalke, Charlotte Griffin, Laney Herdler, and Lillian Carey—delivered a strong 5thplace performance, clocking in at 2:10.59.
The boys’ 200 Freestyle Relay team of Gavin Cook, John Kaspar, Dalton Landis, and Hunter Sabo fought from an outside lane to clinch a 3rd-place finish with an impressive time of 1:47.77. Meanwhile, the second boys’ relay team—comprising Rogan Mihatsch, Braxton Landis, Haygen Mings, and Garland Hart—put forth a solid effort, earning 10th place with a time of 2:02.50.
The boys’ and girls’ 400 Freestyle relays put up an exceptional performance across the board The girls’ Relay team of Adysen Janacek, Lillian Carey, Celeine Fabre, and Eleanor Carey delivered a phenomenal race, claiming 2nd place with a time of 4:29.59.
The boys’ Relay team of Dalton Landis, John Kaspar, Hunter Sabo, and Gavin Cook fought hard for a 5th-place finish, clocking in at 4:12.25.
The meet showcased the team’s steady improvement, with an astounding 13 new personal best times set across multiple events: ● Braxton Landis shaved 4.64 seconds off his 200 Freestyle for a new time of 2:31.57.
● Paige Michalke trimmed 0.06 seconds off her 50 Freestyle, finishing in 30.46.
● Hunter Sabo improved by 0.15 seconds in the 50 Freestyle, posting a time of 25.70.
● Clara Bundick took 5.22 seconds off her 100 Freestyle, finishing in 1:10.54.
● Mattie Muzny cut 0.40 seconds from her 100 Freestyle for a time of 1:35.33.
● Rogan Mihatsch reduced his 100 Freestyle time by 2.48 seconds, achieving a 1:07.84.
● Haygen Mings knocked 4.70 seconds off his 100 Freestyle, finishing in 1:09.12.
● Celeine Fabre improved her 100 Backstroke by 0.40 seconds for a time of 1:18.38.
● Clara Bundick took an impressive 5.89 seconds off her 100 Backstroke, clocking in at 1:21.27.
● Laney Herdler cut 2.30 seconds from her 100 Backstroke for a time of 1:27.19.
● Braxton Landis shaved 3.45 seconds off his 100 Backstroke, achieving a 1:18.52.
● Kynzee Swafford improved her 100 Breaststroke by 1.41 seconds, finishing in 1:34.05.
● Gavin Cook reduced his 100 Breaststroke time by 0.95 seconds, clocking in at 1:13.58.
