Leps Celebrate Senior Night By Smashing Smithville 84-13
The five seniors on the La Grange basketball team filled the starting lineup for the Leps Friday as they smashed Smithville 84-13 in the home finale.
“All five of those guys have bought into what we are selling and leaving a really big legacy,” said La Grange head coach Trent Collier, whose team improved to 23-8 overall and 9-0 in district.
Even with Tuesday’s regular season finale at Bellville to go, the Leps have already sewn up their third consecutive district title.
Those five seniors for the Leps were Cordale Knapik, Clayton Cooper, Devonte Mc-Kenzie, Tre Supak and Camden Coltrain.
“It was definitely a fun atmosphere tonight,” Coltrain said. “Some of us, like myself and Tre, were making our first ever starts on varsity ... We’ve had a really successful season and I attribute that to the way our culture’s built. I wouldn’t want to spend my senior sea-son with anybody but the guys on this team.”
Cooper led the Leps in scorig with 16. Junior Cole Collier scored 14 and sophommore Conner Brooks had 11.
But it was the seniors who were the focus of the night in their final game at Leps Gym.
“They are just great kids,” Trent Collier said of those seniors. “Clay and Cordale are two of the best defensive guards I’ve ever coached. They are fun.
“Devonte is such a smooth, calm leader. Never over-reacts, never under-reacts.
“Camden and Tre are great team players. Tre has hit some big threes for us over the year. He’s long and athletic. Camden had the heart of a lion, hustles when he gets out there and leads the cheers on the bench.”
Now that the regular season is winding down the Leps will turn their attention to the postseason, which begins next week, details still to be determined.
