In their varsity home opener Tuesday, the La Grange baseball team bashed the Austin Waves 12-2 Tuesday.

Bradyn Prasek was the starting pitcher and took a shutout into the fifth inning, striking out five. Tristan Ulrich got the final two outs of the game in relief.

Prasek also had two hits and two RBIs for the Leps.

Eli Gillum drove in three runs and had a hit. Colt Jobb and Kyler Lamza both drove in two runs.

Holdyn Cooper had a hit and an RBI.

Other hits for the Leps were by Ty Stark, Max Dixon and Hunter Sabo.

The Leps, now 4-2, turn their attention to their home tournament this Thursday-Saturday. The schedule is below.

“The kids are playing hard right now. We had a lot of great at-bats, a lot of RBIs in two-strike approaches. The kids are really buying in and it’s paying off. We’re taking the extra bases when we can,” said La Grange head baseball coach James Zaruba, who is in his first year of leading the Leps. He’s been at LGISD the last few years as golf coach, but prior to coming here, he won a pair of state titles as a baseball assistant at Flatonia.

His hopes are high for the Leps this year.

“We’ve got a lot of senior leadership with a lot of young talent, a lot of depth in pitching right now.,” Zaruba said. “I’ve been itching (to get back into baseball) It’s a nice feeling being back out here.”
