Lady Leps Win Softball Playoff Opener 23-0

The La Grange softball team blasted Houston Wheatley 23-0 Thursday at Rice Consolidated to win their 4A playoff opener.

Thursday’s victory vaults the Lady Leps into the second round where they will face Salado in a best-of-three series in Thrall. Thursday is a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. If needed Game 3 is Friday at 6 p.m.

Against Wheatley, La Grange jumped out to a big lead Thursday, scoring 15 runs in the first inning.

Alyssa Liccioni and Marissa Gonzales hit inside the park home runs.

La Grange had 18 total hits in the game. Kaylee Holmes, Haeydn Cooper, Haylie Cooper and Liccioni all had multihit games for the Lady Leps, who improved to 17-12 overall. Melissa Gonzales drove in three runs. Marissa Gonzales and Rielynn Hall combined to no-hit Wheatley. Gonzales threw one inning and Hall pitched two.

The La Grange baseball team begins the playoffs this week against Houston Furr, but details of their series had not been finalized at press time. The winner advances to play the Salado/Georgetown Gateway winner.
