Lady Leps Varsity Soccer Defeats Manor New Tech 3-2

The La Grange Lady Leps Varsity Soccer team secured a 3-2 win over Manor New Tech (MNT) at Leopard Stadium on Friday.

With the win, the Lady Leps Varsity has won 13 of its last 16 matches and is 11-3 in district play.

Capitalizing on a favorable wind, the Lady Leps established control of the game early. Less than eight minutes into the match, senior captain Kyla Colon connected with freshman Kayden Yanis on a throw-in and Yanis flicked the ball to fellow freshman Lily Banks, who found the back of the net to open the scoring. Twenty-three minutes later, sophomore Melanie Cruz executed a precise throw-in to Banks inside the box, where Banks was able to slot home her second goal of the night and give the Lady Leps a 2-0 lead heading into the break.

Despite playing into the wind in the second half, the Lady Leps extended their lead seven minutes after the restart. Senior captain Trinity Yanis played a forward ball to fellow captain Kaylee Soto, who turned and fed freshman Raylee Gutierrez on the wing. Gutierrez finished the sequence by burying the ball into the upper netting of the goal for a 3-0 advantage.

MNT did not go quietly, scoring two late goals – including one in the final minute of play – but the Lady Leps held firm to secure a 3-2 win.

In earlier action, the Lady Leps JV team lost to MNT’s JV by a score of 2-1. Despite playing against the wind and falling behind 2-0 in the first half, the JV team exhibited immense resilience. Sophomore Ariana Hernandez notched her first goal of the season a mere three minutes into the second half to bring the Lady Leps within one. While the Lady Leps JV couldn’t score an equalizer, Friday’s 2-1 loss was a stark contrast to the teams’ previous meeting in February, when the JV lost to MNT by a score of 7-0.

The Lady Leps JV and Varsity Soccer teams are in action at Leopard Stadium again on Monday, March 9 versus Giddings. JV kicks off at 5:15 p.m. and Varsity kicks off at 7:15 p.m.

Leps Fall at Manor 4-0

The La Grange boys soccer team went to Manor Friday and lost to New Tech 4-0. The varsity Leps are now 13-7 overall and 9-5 in district and play Monday at 7 p.m in Giddings.
