Lady Leps Clinch Runner-Up Spot

The La Grange girls basketball team only has two seniors, but both played big roles late as the Lady Leps rallied for a come-from-behind 4236 victory over Giddings Friday.

Xeriah Jimenez provided some late scoring spark and Tori Harold was dominant on the boards as both seniors were playing in their final game at Lep Gym.

“They both have dealt with injuries. I’m excited and proud of both those girls. They have meant a lot to us,” said La Grange head coach Heath Golan. “It’s heartwarming to send them out with a win, but we have more work to do.”

“Those two seniors really bring life to the team and we are going to miss them a lot,” said La Grange’s Kylie Trlicek, who scored eight Friday.

Kaylee Holmes led the way for the Lady Leps with 13 points.

Giddings led this one 2421 at halftime.

La Grange tied the game at 24-24 after a Holmes steal and lay-up late in the third. A pair of Trlicek free throws at the end of the third quarter gave the Lady Leps a 30-28 lead they would never lose.

“Giddings is a rival so games against them are always tough,” Trlicek said.

“Our defense finally buckled down and we had good clean possessions late in the game.”

“We finally started playing solid defense. When our shots aren’t falling, like tonight, we have to make that defensive effort a priority,” Golan said.

The victory improved the Lady Leps’ overall record to 19-10 and their district mark to 9-2, clinching the runner-up spot in District 22-4A.

The Lady Leps close out the regular season Tuesday at Manor New Tech and then await the playoffs.
