La Grange vs. Giddings
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday Where: Giddings Records: La Grange is 5-3 overall and 1-2 in district. Giddings is 2-6 overall and 1-2 in district.
Of Note: The stakes for this year’s version of this historic rivalry are pretty clear, the winner will clinch a playoff berth, while the loser would be in real danger of missing the postseason. Giddings and La Grange have been playing one another most every season for the past 107 years. The Buffaloes are getting very little passing offense this season (just 42 yards per game) but are averging 218 yards a game on the ground, led by Bryson McDaniel, who is averaging 105 yards per game. Giddings’ only two wins this season have come against Smithville and Caldwell, though they lost to Rockdale and Jarrell by less than a touchdown.
Last meeting: Giddings won 23-21 last year after a wild fourth quarter. The Leps led 14-9 going into the final quarter when the teams combined for 21 points in a 32-second span. Giddings took a 16-14 lead on a Cade Patschke nineyard touchdown. La Grange retook the lead on an 81-yard Dwodney Thompson kick-off return, but then Giddings won the game on the very next play, a 80-yard kickoff return by Bryson McDaniel.
