La Grange High School Swim Team Shines at TISCA South Meet
The La Grange High School swim team competed in their first two-day meet of the season at the TISCA 4A and Under South Meet in San Antonio on November 22–23. This meet served as a preview for February’s state championship, featuring top 4A teams from across the State. Entering as underdogs, La Grange swimmers impressed by advancing all three girls’ relays, two boys’ relays, and three individual competitors to Saturday’s finals, with an additional boys’ relay earning alternate status.
The weekend brought excitement as the team broke four school records and achieved numerous personal bests.

Performances
100 Backstroke: Senior Celeine Fabre broke a 2021 record with a time of 1:17.02, cutting 1.33 seconds off the previous mark.
Girls’ 200 Freestyle Relay: The team broke their week-old record on Friday and shattered it again in Saturday’s finals. With all members swimming sub-30 splits, the relay posted a new record of 1:55.21 and placed 9th overall. Team members: Adysen Janacek (28.66) Celeine Fabre (28.29) Paige Michalke (29.65) Eleanor Carey (28.61) Girls’ 400 Freestyle Relay: The team topped their early-November record in Saturday’s finals, finishing 10th with a time of 4:23.46, an improvement of 1.45 seconds. Relay members: Eleanor Carey (1:05.66) Madeline Willrich (1:09.39) Celeine Fabre (1:05.15) Adysen Janacek (1:03.66) Girls’ 200 Medley Relay: The relay secured 11th place with a time of 2:12.09. Members: Celeine Fabre (backstroke), Adysen Janacek (breaststroke), Hope Michalke (butterfly), and Eleanor Carey (freestyle).
The boys also delivered strong relay performances, including: Boys’ 200 Medley Relay: Improved from 16th to 12th place, finishing in 1:59.07. Team members: Rogan Mihatsch (backstroke), Gavin Cook (breaststroke), Hunter Sabo (butterfly), and John Kaspar (freestyle).
Boys’ 400 Freestyle Relay: Improved by over 11 seconds to finish 12th in 4:01.06.

Several swimmers achieved their fastest times of the season: Gavin Cook (100 Breaststroke): Improved by 1.86 seconds Rogan Mihatsch: 50 Free (-0.66), 100 Free (-2.97) Mattie Muzny: 50 Free (-1.63), 100 Free (-8.28) Others: Hope Michalke, Paige Michalke, Hadley Deters, Laney Herdler, Haygan Mings, Kynzee Swafford, and Hunter Sabo also posted personal bests.
Despite limited practice time – La Grange trains in Brenham three days a week compared to other teams’ 4–5 days – the swimmers continue to thrive, setting records and reaching new milestones.
Next up, the top 11 athletes will compete at the TISCA North Meet in Grapevine on December 6–7, beginning the final stretch toward January’s district meet.
