La Grange High School Swim Team Shines at Quad Meet in San Antonio
The La Grange High School Swim Team faced fierce competition at Davenport High School in San Antonio on Wednesday, November 6th, competing against powerhouse programs including two 6A schools, Samuel Clemens High School and Byron P. Steele High School, and the host 4A Davenport High School. Despite the formidable field, La Grange delivered an outstanding performance, setting four new school records and posting an impressive 17 personal best times.
Breaking Records and Setting New Standards Freshman Adysen Janacek continued her recordbreaking streak, clocking a remarkable 2:20.49 in the 200 Freestyle, slicing two seconds off her previous best. Senior standout Laney Herdler dominated the 500 Freestyle, improving her time by four seconds with a 7:18.19, highlighting her dedication and stamina over the grueling 20lap race.
The Girls 200 Freestyle Relay team, consisting of Adysen Janacek, Paige Michalke, Celeine Fabre, and Eleanor Carey, made waves with a new school record of 1:56.74, besting their previous time from three weeks ago. Meanwhile, the Girls 400 Freestyle Relay team, featuring Adysen Janacek, Madeline Willrich, Celeine Fabre, and Eleanor Carey, shattered a longstanding record with a 4:24.91 finish, eclipsing the previous mark by seven seconds and showcasing exceptional teamwork.
Strong Performances Across Events
The 200 Medley Relay teams for both the girls and boys showcased La Grange’s depth. The girls’ team of Celeine Fabre, Adysen Janacek, Hope Michalke, and Eleanor Carey swam a best time of 2:11.59, placing fourth, while the boys’ team of Gavin Cook, Hunter Sabo, Chandler Fabre, and John Kaspar set a new best of 2:09.25, earning sixth place.
Individual events were marked by personal achievements as swimmers pushed themselves to new heights. In the 200 Free, John Kaspar swam a 2:19.06, improving his time by over three seconds, while Braxton Landis shaved nearly five seconds off his best, swimming a 2:36.21. Eleanor Carey captured second in the 50 Free with a swift 28.11, and her teammates Paige Michalke, Lillian Carey, and Dalton Landis also set personal bests in the event.
The 100 Freestyle saw standout performances, with Lillian Carey taking an impressive 7.57 seconds off her previous best, finishing in 1:14.90. Charlotte Griffin dropped 2.80 seconds for a personal best of 1:19.82, and Hadley Deters made an extraordinary leap with a 12.63-second improvement, now at 1:37.30.
In the 200 Freestyle Relay the boys’ relay team of Cook, Fabre, Kaspar, and Sabo also delivered, taking over three seconds off their best with a 1:47.65.
Dedication Shines in Breaststroke
The 100 Breaststroke saw exceptional improvement from several swimmers. Paige Michalke clocked a personal best of 1:29.00, cutting nearly three seconds off her time, while Kynzee Swafford swam a 1:35.46, lowering her time by 1.48 seconds. Gavin Cook and Hunter Sabo also set new personal bests, swimming 1:14.53 and 1:21.32, respectively, with Cook cutting 3.20 seconds from his previous mark.

The team and their supporters eagerly anticipate the remainder of the season, as the team continues to build momentum towards the district meet with their eyes on the State Championship in February.
