La Grange Drill Team’s Hard Work Pays Off With Multiple Awards
On February 24, the La Grange High School Leopardette Drill Team competed in the American Dance and Drill Team Houston Regional Dance Championship at Dekaney High School in Houston.
These ladies earned a number of awards including Best in Class Runner Up, Best Overall Silver Award, and Sweepstakes for receiving Division 1 ratings for their outstanding performances in their pom, military, and contemporary routines.
This team definitely brought their A game to this competition. In addition to winning Sweepstakes, these ladies were awarded the Gussie Nell Davis Award of Excellence.
This coveted and prestigious award is given to teams receiving a 93 or above from every judge on every routine.
“I’m not sure these ladies even grasp how well they actually performed at competition this year. They just went out there and gave it their all, danced with all their heart, and brought a level of excellence that only they can bring,” said Becky Little, Director of the Leopardette Drill Team.
“Not only do these amazing students shine on the dance floor, they also shine in the classroom.”
Along with the dance awards, these girls earned the Academic Champions Award for having the highest cumulative GPA of all the teams competing – a 4.001.
“This is an amazing group of young ladies. It’s so exciting to see their hard work and commitment, both at practice and in the classroom, rewarded in this way,” said Kim Landis, Assistant Director.
We’re happy to honor them as this week’s Fayette County Athletes of the Week.
