Schulenburg basketball player Byron Johnson is a talented athlete who is cool, calm and collected on the football field and the basketball court as well. The junior has been a scoring machine for the Horns recently as they have a dazzling record of 7-2 in district play.

“He’s really matured as a player,” said Schulenburg head boy’s basketball coach Rich Hoogendoorn. “He is a very good defensive player. We beat Shiner on the road by three and they had a three attempt at the buzzer and he blocked the shot of their leading scorer. He’s a two year starter who has matured into his role and is being more consistent both defensively and offensively, which has helped lead us to our success in district.”

Johnson’s big-time playmaking has made him our choice for this edition’s Athlete of the Week.
