The Serbin Jackrabbits set a new team record on Sunday night by finishing the season with a perfect 10-0 record – a feat that hadn’t ever been accomplished in the history of Serbin playing in Community League Baseball.

“No Serbin team has ever won all of their games in a season,” says longtime Serbin Manager Eldor Becker, who started managing the team back in 1988.

The Rabbits won recent trophies in 2009, 2019, 2022, and now in 2024 – but never with unbeaten records until now.

It didn’t start out too well for the Jackrabbits in Sunday’s title game at the Ballpark in La Grange, with the Weimar Vets jumping out to a 3-0 lead after the first 3 innings.

The Rabbits scored two runs in the 4th and one in the 5th to tie it 3-3, then took a 5-3 lead by scoring two more runs in the 6th. Weimar answered with a run in the 7th but couldn’t get any closer than that.

Colter Zoch -- who pitched the 8th and 9th innings to get the save -- struck out the first batter in the 9th. The next batter reached on an error on a hit to 2nd base. The third batter of the inning hit a ground ball, and Serbin turned a doubleplay from shortstop to 2nd base to 1st base to close out the game. “It was a beautiful ending.” Manager Becker said.

Zoch only allowed one hit with two strikeouts. Chance Norman started on the mound, pitching 2-1/3 innings while giving up three runs on four hits with six walks and four strikeouts. Wyatt Wick, who went 4-2/3 innings as the winning pitcher, struck out a whopping 10 batters and gave up one run on four hits with one walk.

Kadyn Hall was the leading hitter for Serbin by going 2-for-3 with a walk, followed by Mason Becker 2-4, Colter Zoch 2-4, Chase Oltmann 1-3, Dacota Kauffman 1-4, and Holden Jatzlau 1-5.

The last time that Serbin lost to Weimar happened on June 2, 2019, when the Vets won 5-4 in 12 innings. Since then, the Jackrabbits have beaten the Vets nine consecutive times.
