Gonzales Homers as the Lady Leps Beat Caldwell
The La Grange softball team beat Caldwell 8-1 Tuesday as Melissa Gonzales hit a towering home run over the scoreboard in left center and drove in two.
“I did not think I was going to hit it over the scoreboard. I felt really, really good,” Gonzales said.
The Lady Leps are now 15-8 overall and 6-2 in district.
“We’ve gotten better throughout the season,” Gonzales said. “We’re piecing it together. We’re getting our stuff together.”
Landri Hernandez, Brion Williams and Madi Adams all had two hits each.
“We came out and did what we were supposed to,” said La Grange head coach Robert Young. “We played small ball almost to perfection. That’s what will keep us in games. The girls did a great job of moving runners around.”
Brooke Ulrich pitched six innings of one-run ball and struck out seven.
Iylah King pitched a perfect seventh inning, striking out three.
