Friday Football Previews
La Grange vs. Bellville
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Bellville
Records: Leps are 4-2 overall and 0-1 in district. Bellville is 3-3 and 1-0.
Of Note: The Brahmas may not be the same team that won 15 straight to march all the way to the state title game last year (where they lost 28-26 to Gilmer) but the Brahmas are still very good. They returned just six offensive and three defensive starters from last year. They have lost to Celina, Hitchcock and Columbus but are coming off a 35-28 win over Sealy in which DD Murray ran for 115 yards. The Leps are coming off a 56-42 loss to Madisonville. Senior QB Clayton Cooper ran for four touchdowns and junior RB Da’von Giscome rushed for 162 yards and two TDs ... Bellville defensive tackle D.J. Sanders has gotten offers from every top college program in the nation (Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, etc) but he has verbally committed to play for Texas A&M.
Last meeting: Last year Bellville beat La Grange 68-20 in the season opener for both teams as the Brahmas scored 42 points in the first quarter and rushed for 506 yards. Le’Kayvion Broussard ran for a touchdown and Thai Scott and Julian Sherman caught touchdown passes from Clayton Cooper for the Leps in that game.
Schulenburg vs. Ganado
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Schulenburg
Records: Schulenburg is 4-2 overall and 1-1 in district. Ganado is 6-1 overall and 3-0 in district.
Of Note: Schulenburg was off last week and they needed the extra prep time for a Ganado team that has legitimate state title aspirations this season. The Indians are coming off a 41-0 slaughter of Weimar (which beat Schulenburg the week before). Ganado’s only loss this season game to East Bernard, but after the game senior quarterback Bryce Ullman returned to the lineup and in his four games back is completing 72-percent of his passes and throwing for 248 yards per game.
Last meeting: These two teams last played one another in 2021 when they were in the same district. Ganado won that game 35-0.
