Flatonia Rolls To Third Round

The Flatonia Bulldog baseball team downed the Port Aransas Marlins last week to win a 2A Area championship. This best of three playoff series was played at Riverside Stadium in Victoria. Flatonia won in two straight games, with 8-4 and 6-5 victories.

Game 2 was a real thriller as the Bulldogs won the series clincher 6-5 in eight innings.

In the bottom of the 8th inning the Dogs loaded the bases on two walks to Cale Janecka and Titan Targac, and a hit by pitch on Henri Vincik. After a fly out, Diego Ramirez was able to single through the drawn in infield to knock in Janecka with the winning run.

Flatonia opened up the bottom of the first scoring their first run. Rambo Ramirez knocked in this run on a RBI ground out.

The Bulldogs scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Janecka hit an RBI single. Vincik had an RBI base on balls. A two run RBI single off the bat of Rambo Ramirez finished off the second scoring. Janecka & Targac both led the Dogs with two hits apiece in game one. Beck Zimmerman earned the win on the mound with two solid innings of relief pitching. He finished with one walk and had five K’s. Blake Kessler started on the hill for Flatonia. He pitched six quality innings. He gave up two earned runs on 6 hits, three walks, and had ten K’s.

In game one Flatonia held on for an 8-4 victory.

Targac picked up the win by pitching six fine innings. He gave up two hits, four walks, & had sixteen K’s. Vincik & Janecka combined to pitched the seventh inning, to close out the game one victory.

In the first inning Fiatonia scored twice on a RBI triple by Targac & an RBI sac fly off the bat of Vincik. Four runs were scored in the 2nd inning by the Dogs. Raymond Toro hit a RBI single. Janecka knocked in a run on a hit by pitch. A RBI ground out by Targac plated the third run. And Zimmerman scored the fourth run on an errant throw by a Marlin infielder. The fifth inning had Janecka scoring on a wild pitch, & Vincik knocking in a run on a ground out. Targac and Janecka both had two hits in game one. Targac’s two hits were a triple and a double.

The Bulldogs now advance to the Regional Quarterfinal round of the playoffs to play the Kenedy Lions.

Flatonia will play this best of three series at Wimberley High School this coming weekend.

Game one will be played on Thursday, May 16 at 7 p.m.

Game two will be played on Friday, May 17 at 7 p.m.

If necessary game three will be on Saturday, May 18 at 2 p.m.
