Flatonia Baseball Picks Up Two Wins
The Flatonia Bulldog baseball team picked up two wins last week in the Mike Schulze Memorial Baseball Classic.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs defeated Shiner St. Paul 5-4 in their last game of the tournament.
Diego Ramirez picked up the win on the mound in relief of starter Blake Kessler.
Beck Zimmerman led the Dogs at the plate with two extra base hits, a triple and a double. He also scored four runs. Titan Targac had a two RBI single vs the Cardinals.
Flatonia picked up their other win of the week vs. Tidehaven by a 5-0 score on Friday evening.
Caysen Perez led the offense with two hits, one RBi, & scored once. Tripp Bowling had a two RBI double vs. the Tigers. Henri Vincik & Udi Manzano also each had a hit.
Targac earned the win on the bump by only giving up two hits over six innings with 13 Ks.
The Dogs lost to East Bernard 6-2 to open up their tournament on Thursday.
Targac had Flatonia’s only hit vs the Brahmas.
Zimmerman was saddled with loss on the mound.
Last Tuesday, the Bulldogs opened up district play with a 17-16 road loss to the Fayetteville Lions. This game vs. Lions does not count toward the district standings since Fayetteville is in the 1A division and Flatonia is in the 2A division.
Both teams used their entire pitching staffs in this pitcher by committee ballgame. Fayetteville used seven pitchers and the Bulldogs used nine pitchers.
Pitching for Flatonia vs the Lions included: Targac, Kessler, Kullen Kutac, Yandel Manzano, Vincik, Zimmerman, Nathan Aguillon, Udi Manzano, and Zayden Perez.
Targac led the Dogs at the plate by going 3-3 with a home run, double, three RBI’s, and five runs.
Zimmerman, Vincik, and Udi Manzano each had two hits vs. the Lions. Vincik had four RBIs, and Manzano had three RBIs with a double from each of them.
Flatonia have two district games scheduled this week vs. 2A competition. On Tuesday, we play at home vs. Bloomington at 6 p.m. Then on Friday, the Dogs will travel to Louise for a 6 p.m. ballgame.
Next week Tuesday, March 18 Flatonia will host Schulenburg in a 6 p.m. contest.
