Fayetteville High School grad turned Texas A&M Corpus Christi volleyball star Brooklyn Jaeger earned a big collegiate honor this week.

Stepping into a new role within the last few matches, Jaeger, a sophomore at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, was recognized for her transition as the Southland Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week announced by the league office Monday.

Jaeger has been an allaround player for the Islanders this year but has recently settled into the starting libero position and has quickly become a staple on the back line for the Islanders.

She averaged 4.00 digs/ set last week with a pair of double figure dig performances including 13 against Nicholls and 11 against Mc-Neese, both coming in just three-set sweeps. Combined, she helped the Islanders’ defense hold their opponents to a mere .100 hitting clip on the week.

“Brooklyn is the ideal team player and gives everything she has to help the team and has stepped into the libero role these last couple of weeks and really shined with her serve receive, defense, and serving,” said Texas A&M Corpus head volleyall coach Steve Greene. “She was so consistent and comfortable in her new role this week and really cemented our defense.”
