Fayetteville Baseball Headed to State
The Fayetteville baseball team is headed back to the state tournament after sweeping old rival D’Hanis in the 1A regional finals this week in Kenedy. The Lions (17-4) won Tuesday 5-2 and then Wednesday 9-8 to punch their ticket to the state semifinals next Wednesday at Dell Diamond. In Tuesday’s victory Jack Schley pitched 6.2 innings of two-run ball with eight strikeouts and then Chance Konvicka came in to close out the game on the mound. Offensively in that game the Lions were led by senior Jake Kubala, who had a three-run triple. Konvicka had two hits and an RBI and Lawson Fritsch drove in the other run. Fritsch, Schley, Keagan Supak, Easton Jaeger and Konvicka scored the runs for the Lions.
In Wednesday’s slugfest victory, four Lions combined on the pitching effort – Supak, Jaeger, Kole Schmitt and Konvicka. Schmitt hurled 3.1 innings of one-run relief. Jaeger had two hits and two RBIs. Kubala had an RBI double. Fritsch had two hits and scored a run. Supak had a hit and scored three times. Mason Fenhaus scored twice. Schley and Brody Dooley also had hits for the Lions.
