Fayette Co. Goes 3-for-4 in Opening Round of Girls Basketball Playoffs
Fayette County had a big opening round of the girls basketball playoffs Monday as three of the four locals teams competing won. Here’s a roundup of all the action:
La Grange Blasts Houston Washington
The La Grange girls basketball team won its first postseason game since 2021 with a 59-35 victory over Houston Washington Monday in Waller.
The Lady Leps jumped out to an early lead (19-8 after the first quarter) and never looked back as they improved their record to 21-10 overall.
“We had some great defensive effort that generated some easy baskets,” Golan said. “There didn’t seem to be a lot of postseason jitters.”
Freshman Campbell Cooper led the way for La Grange with 25 points.
“Campbell, she’s been solid all year and had some big games but it was nice to see her do that in her first playoff game,” Golan said.
Kylie Trlicek added nine points for La Grange and Tori Harold had seven.
Monday’s victory vaults the Lady Leps into the area round of the 4A playoffs where they will face defending state champ Waco La Vega Thursday at 7 p.m. at Bryan High School.
La Vega advanced to the second round by beating Lampasas 103-20.
“La Vega is going to be a huge challenge,” Golan said. “ They won state last year and return some players from that team. They are super athletic, super skilled.”

RTC Beats Prairie Lea by 20
The Round Top-Carmine girls basketball team rolled to a 52-32 victory over Prairie Lea Monday on Schulenburg in the first round of the 1A playoffs.
Jill Eilers scored 12 to lead RTC and Tess Eilers and Jaylen Bage each scored 10.
The Cubettes improved to 12-4 overall with the win and now advance to face Nueces Canyon Friday at 6 p.m. at Seguin High School in the second round.

Fayetteville’s Season Ends
The Fayetteville girls basketball season came to an end Monday in Ganado as the Lady Lions fell to Pettus 5235 in the first round of the 1A playoffs.
Rylie Dyer scored 16 and Kayme Schley scored 12. The Lady Lions end their season with a 12-18 record.

Flatonia Rolls Past Granger
The Flatonia girls basketball team had no trouble beating Granger in the first round of the 2A playoffs, winning 67-38 Monday in Giddings.
Summer Sodek scored 30 for the Lady Bulldogs. Danielle Vinklarek had 14 points and Kalen Scott scored 12.
The Flatonia girls now advance to the area round where they will face Evadale Friday at 6 p.m. at Conroe Oak Creek.
