It’s quality over quantity as far as the La Grange girls basketball team in concerned.

Beset by injuries, the Lady Leps suited out only seven varsity players for Friday’s district game against Manor New Tech.

It was more than enough. The La Grange girls put on another dominating effort, beating the Titans 67-6 as the Lady Leps improved to 15-9 overall and 5-1 in district.

“Even in games like this there are still things to work on, things we need to focus on for when we play teams that are tougher,” said La Grange freshman Campbell Cooper, who scored 18 Friday.

Sophomore Kylie Trlicek led the Lady Leps in scoring with 27 points.

With Landri Hernandez, Cara Homer and Xeriah Jimenez all sidelined (Hernandez is out for the rest of the season, Homer was on crutches Friday but Jimenez is expected back this week) other players keep stepping up for the Lady Leps.

Kaylee Holmes scored six for La Grange, freshman call-up Hannah Gross scored six, Tori Harold scored four and Macie Collier and Ella Nygren both scored three.

With only seven players, break times were short-lived for the Lady Leps.

“I’d like to have a little more depth, especially when we play some of the other schools like Smithville, Giddings and Taylor, but we’ll go with what works,” La Grange head coach Heath Golan said.

Friday marked the halfway point in district play. La Grange’s only loss was to first Taylor, and the Lady Leps are all alone in second place.

La Grange will play each district team one more time before the playoffs. The Lady Leps next play at Smithville Friday.
