The Eilers Twins Are Double Trouble for Opposing Teams
Twins Tess and Jill Eilers are the only seniors on a Round Top-Carmine basketball team that is having a great season.
Monday, Tess scored 29 and Jill scored 19 as the Cubettes beat Runge 64-25 in a first round playoff game to improve to 15-2 this season.
They look and sound alike, and the way they play (both in volleyball and basketball) leaves opponents doubly frustrated.
“Those are going to be two pairs of really big shoes to fill after they graduate,” said Round Top-Carmine head coach Caitie Weishuhn. “They are great kids, generational kids from RTC. They enjoy playing, they give their all and are the true epitome of what we want a Cubette to be. They have really turned it on, and they actually believe now that they can be good in basketball, and they’ve helped create that culture.”
We’re proud to honor Tess and Jill Eilers as this week’s Fayette County Athletes of the Week. We caught up with the twins moments after their playoff win Monday. Here’s our interview with them:
Do people confuse y’all a lot?
“All the time,” they answer in unison.
Tess, what’s the scouting report on your sister as a basketball player?
“Jill is really good at making the side shots and going in and doing her little lay-up thing.”
Jill, talk about your sister as a basketball player?
“Tess is really good at shooting, smart on the court, knows where to pass it. She’s really easy going, not stressed when she’s out there.”
How similar are y’all personality-wise?
Jill: “We are literally the same person to be honest.”
Tess: “The same personality.”
Jill: “We like the same things.”
Y’all are seniors, what are your plans for after high school?
Jill: “I plan to go to Blinn first and then transfer to A&M.”
Tess: “Same thing ... probably major in education ... ”
Jill: “...Special education.”
What will make it a successful basketball season?
Tess: “Winning state ... it would be pretty cool going to state our senior year.”
Jill: “Definitely going to state.”
What’s it like being the only two seniors on this team?
Jill: “It’s a lot of fun, but you have to talk to the underclassmen to make sure they are comfortable playing, and stay positive. If you are negative, they are negative.”
Tess: “If we have a good attitude they feel a lot better.”
