Diggs Headed Back To State in Two Events

The wait was worth it for Austen Diggs.

Because of bad weather, the finals of the Region III4A track meet in Bullard was postponed two days.

But Diggs was just as fast on Monday as he would have been on Saturday, blazing his way to a regional title in the 200 meters in a time of 21.30. He was also the regional runner- up in the 100 meters in a time of 10.44, making him a state qualifier in both sprint events.

Diggs, a Baylor University- bound senior, is the defending state champ in the 200 meters.

Also on Monday, Diggs nearly rallied the La Grange 4x400 relay to a medal with a strong last leg, but the Leps were fourth with a time of 3:23.81.

Runners on that relay were Isaac Odem, Le’Kayvion Broussard, Graham Youens, Jordyn Murray and Austen Diggs. La Grange’s Cordale Knapik was sixth in the pole vault, clearing 13-6.

On the girls side, La Grange freshman Macie Collier was third in the 300 hurdles in a time of 45.13, and she will advance to state as well (see story on her below).

Both Diggs and Collier will compete at the 4A state track meet Thursday May 2 at the University of Texas in Austin. – Jeff Wick
