Brion Williams, the Lady Leps’ Powerful Freshman, is County Athlete of the Week
Brion Williams has emerged as a freshman star for the La Grange varsity volleyball team. The Lady Leps began their district season with a thrilling five set win over Smithville Tuesday and Williams was a big part of that win with 10 kills and four blocks.
“You can tell by the smile and the twinkle in her eye that she brings a certain amount of joy and she has brought energy to our team,” La Grange head coach Leslie Coltrain said. “She’s constantly talking and the girl is as goofy as all get out.”
We’re proud to honor Williams as this the newest Fayette County Athlete of the Week. Here’s our interview with her:
Can you describe the intensity of Tuesday’s match?
“It was very nerve-wracking. Both teams were yelling at each other. The crowd was cheering.”
What has your freshmen year been like so far?
“It’s been very good. The work is kinda hard, but the sports are fun. Coach makes it fun.”
Who is your funniest teammate and why?
“Ashtyn (Smith) because I’ve known her the longest and she’s easy to get along with.”
What other sports do you plan to do this school year?
See “I plan on doing basketball and maybe track. And then softball.”
If you could have dinner with any three celebrities who would you pick?
“I would pick Beyonce, Michael B. Jordan and my uncle Brodney Pool. (former NFL safety, who is now a coach at LHS).”
When did you start playing volleyball?
“I started playing volleyball in fourth grade.”
What is the best thing they serve in the La Grange cafeteria?
“The spaghetti or the Asian chicken.”
What is the worst?
“The burgers.”
What is your favorite movie?
“Scream”
Who is your favorite musical artist?
“Don Toliver”
Describe head coach Leslie Coltrain?
“My good friend right here is very exciting. She’s a good coach and she helps us work through stuff.”
What do you want to be when you grow up?
“Either an orthopedic doctor or chiropractor.”
What part of your volleyball game are you most proud of and what part do you need to work on the most?
“I’m most proud of my hitting and my blocking. I need to work on my serving, the consistency.”
