Bellville ran for 562 yards and scored on all nine of their possessions as the Brahmas beat La Grange 63-20 Friday night.

The loss drops the Leps’ record to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in district as La Grange prepares to host Caldwell this week for homecoming.

“Our coaches had a great game plan for us, we executed all week in practice. Things just didn’t go our way tonight. We have to bounce back from this,” said La Grange sophomore wide receiver Dillan Johnson, who got the Leps on the board with a 22-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter.

La Grange struggled all night Friday to contain Bellville’s Slot-T rushing attack, which averaged 11.7 yards per carry. Senior DD Murray led that attack with 192 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Juniors Izak Hranicky and Kendrick Turner each ran for two touchdowns.

Bellville started last season 15-0 and went all the way to the state title game before losing to Gilmer. This year their overall record is now 4-3, but they are 2-0 in district.

“They are a really good team,” La Grange linebacker Ramon Ortiz said of Bellville. “Hopefully next year we can get them. We just have to find new ways to attack them.”

La Grange, meanwhile, ended up with respectable offensive numbers against Bellville (296 total yards) – just not nearly enough points.

Lep senior quarterback Clayton Coooper threw for 210 yards and that touchdown to Johnson.

Cooper also ran for a 36 yards and a score.

Da’von Giscome led the Leps in rushing Friday with 38 yards.

Leps sophomore Eli Gillum entered the game in the fourth quarter at quarterback and ran for a 25-yard touchdowns.

Johnson had six catches for 84 yards for the Leps.

Le’Kayvion Broussard had seven catches for 82 yards.

La Grange is still very much alive in the playoff race, but faces virtually mustwin situations each of the next two weeks against Caldwell and then at Giddings Nov. 1

Pep Rally Oct. 23

The La Grange community homecoming Pep Rally is this Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m. at Leopard Stadium. A new tradition will be started as the senior class members will exchange commemorative towels (sponsored by Fayetteville Bank and Oviedo) with the kindergarten class members at midfield as part of the festivities.
