Aschenbeck Drafted by the Cubs
On Tuesday, Texas A&M left-handed reliever Evan Aschenbeck was selected in the 13th round, 392nd overall, by the Chicago Cubs in the 2024 MLB Draft.
Aschenbeck, 23, is from Brenham and pitched for Blinn before A&M, but has several local connections, including that just days ago he and Round Top-Carmine graduate Kate Eilers announced their engagement.
Aschenbeck emerged as one of the top bullpen weapons in the country in 2023 and built on that success this season for the Aggies to become the 2024 NCBWA Stopper of the Year as the nation’s best reliever.
In 2024,Aschenbeck had a 1.78 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP in 75.2 innings He had 10 saves, including five of them that were three or more innings. He struck out 87 batters for the Aggies this season while walking just 12.
